Taiyi Five-Form Boxing of Taoism is the boxing technique of Mt. Laoshan school of Taoism and it was created by Zhang Sanfeng, a well-known Taoist priest in the Ming Dynasty of ancient China. Taiyi Five-Form Boxing is mainly made up of two parts: Five-element Boxing and Five-animal Style Boxing. The Five-element refers to the five different boxing techniques of chopping, drilling, punching cannoning and sweeping. Meanwhile, it also refers to the five different materials on earth like metal, wood, water, fire and soil. The Five-animal Style Boxing refers to the boxing imitating the movements of such animals as dragon, tiger, leopard, crane and snake. Practicing the boxing is beneficial to the internal organs of the body, which are traditionally the heart, liver, spleen, lungs, kidneys, making them harmoniously grouped and functioned together. The practicing of the famous priest was integration of activity and stillness for body and soul so as to preserve his health by internal martial arts.
